International Interfaces, Inc.
Company Overview

You saw the high-minded mission on the front page. It's all true, but before you get the impression you're dealing with yet another slow-moving corporate juggernaut, look again. This is really a one-person* company. I'm the guy behind it all, Allan Doyle, and you can see me here on the right. Yes, that's a "Wizards at Work" denim shirt. It's one of the things (besides the nice professional photo) that I've saved from my 12-1/2 year stint at BBN.

I've been part of the Open GIS Consortium as a member since 1994 and have been deeply bitten by the interoperability bug. Before that I always gravitated towards the interfaces between systems anyway, so I suppose it was a matter of time before I bumped into a whole organization that was working on interface specifications.

Sometime in November, 1999 I realized that it was time to strike out on my own, away from the comfort of a multi-billion dollar company (BBN had been bought by GTE which was in turn merging with Bell Atlantic - all you can see today is Verizon which is a telecommunications giant with interoperability problems even I can't help solve). I struck out on my own, incorporated as International Interfaces, Inc. on November 9, 1999, and have been having a great time ever since.

Perhaps my proudest professional accomplishment so far is to have instigated the development of the Web Map Server specification which was developed by a large group of companies under the auspices of the OGC. I received the "Kenneth D. Gardels Award" in April, 2000 based partially on this work.

What you see on this web site is an attempt to provide information to my clients and to others who are interested in interoperability (currently pretty much in the geospatial domain).

International Interfaces refers not just to the fact that I help a global group of companies build interfaces, it also refers to the fact that I've found I can also help companies and organizations with the business of interacting with each other at non-technical levels.

Thanks for taking a look, and let me know if you were looking for something on this site but had trouble finding it. It's a small start and as I find the time, I'll keep working on it.

If you get to this point and really need to know more about me, you can find a link to my resume here.
